When the System Has No Safeguards, Lawyers Become the Line of Defense

I wasn’t planning to write about this topic just yet. But after this weekend’s renewed attacks on immigration lawyers—including a presidential memorandum instructing the Department of Justice to investigate attorneys who represent immigrants—I knew I couldn’t wait. Because this is about more than just lawyers. It’s about what kind of justice system we want to have in this country, and whether due process will be reserved only for some—or remain a right for all.
